Kayo Guevarra is a Canadian artist signed to the same label as the biggest rapper from his hometown–Classified. In an interview with Apollo P, which recently came out, Kayo explains his journey from performing at very local venues in Halifax, to meeting Classified and SonReal, to getting his deal with Black Box.
Now it’s 2017, and Kayo has already delivered two new songs, one of them being FREE featuring Canadian R&B artist JRDN. If you’ve heard of Kayo before you may or may not know he has a collaboration track with Kardinal Offishall. It’s impressive how Kayo has managed to make connections with big Canadian acts from all over. He has made music with Classified, Kardinal, Quake Matthews, SonReal and now JRDN. From eastern Canada to western Canada Kayo is slowly building a nation-wide fan base.
His new release FREE comes with a simple music video. As usual Kayo delivers inspired and deep lyrics in a poetic way. The song is under 2 minutes, but it’s 2 minutes of great music. Kayo is a dope lyricist and although he doesn’t get the spins he deserves I’m sure the people he did reach are convinced of the Halifax rappers talents.
