In case you didn’t already know, Toronto’s Fidel Benjamin has a mixtape dropping around the end of July called They Changed Me. His team invited Made in Toronto to sit in on the listening session for this project, and it was totally worth the trip to Downtown Toronto.
A few weeks ago I got the chance to tune in to the listening party for RVRE Republic artist Fidel Benjamin’s upcoming project They Changed Me. The Toronto rapper is the first RVRE artist to announce a mixtape release after J-Soul’s notable project November 12. Fidel played his project all the way through for a table of people. The project had producers Shyheem and 11LVN whom also had credits on J-Soul’s project Nov. 12. Much like his group member and RichGang signee, Benjamin proves to be a rapper with diverse sounds. The Toronto rapper proves this diversity with his flows and style on almost every track of his upcoming project. From a track like Our Pain, which really shows his conscious raps, to a banger like Lingo, that can get a whole room amped (which it literally did at the listening party), to the only feature on it–Ways featuring Toronto-based U.K. artist Gov, which was the type of song which blurs the line of hip-hop and R&B. They Changed Me is a very well-done project. The RVRE Republic artist really proves he can create great music with this new mixtape.
Here are 7 snippets off of Fidel Benjamin’s upcoming project They Changed Me:
